Fall Weddings in the Blue Ridge
One thing is for sure, fall in Virginia’s Blue Ridge is spectacular. Bright hues of red, orange and yellow make the mountain scenery even more amazing. And the season makes weddings in this area stand out.
“The nice thing about September through November is it allows for a warmer climate and less chance of rain,” says photographer Noah Magnifico. “The leaves changing color is a bonus.”
It was only natural for Joel and Kelly Bessette to choose fall for their wedding date. And the Pete Dye River Course in Blacksburg provided the perfect autumn backdrop.
“We had pumpkins hollowed and filled with fall colored mums for centerpieces,” Bessette says. “And we had big white pumpkins at the base of the alter that Joel built for the ceremony.”
To add to their fall theme, favors were pumpkin cake pops and their color palette was fall colors with a pop of light blue hydrangeas.
Wedding planner Sherri Box with Events by Sherri says most any color palette complements the typical colors of fall.
“You can mix and match many colors; to me, you have more options in the fall,” she says. “Some brides branch out to add colors like eggplant or shades of green.”
Box says many fall weddings feature a rustic or shabby chic theme. Earthy tones, rustic settings, burlap and Mason jars are still very popular in this area, she adds. Wedding party attire in fall colors is a great complement as well.
“I just love this time of year and what you can do with weddings,” Box says. “With fall weddings, brides tend to be very creative because you have so many things that say fall than you can work with in other months.”
Magnifico echoes the sentiment: “It’s certainly great when all things come together to make fall, fall. From a photography standpoint, fall brings together really fun things; leaves changing is definitely one of them.”
