Wedding Wednesday: The Cooke Wedding
The Cooke Wedding | July 14, 2018 | Photography by Lori Hedrick Photography
Logan George and John Cooke were friends for years before they started dating. After graduating from UVA, Logan spent a lot of time at Virginia Tech as her brother finished his last year playing football. Eventually, she hijacked his friends as her own, which is how she met John. They were both working on their masters at the time and their friends picked up on their compatibility way before they did. They were even convinced the two were secretly dating long before they actually became a couple. It wasn’t until after John moved to D.C. for a job that two were officially a couple, and spent the next two years driving up and down 81 to see each other.
In August of 2017 during a visit to see John’s sister in London, the couple went to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, which is a beautiful park overlooking the London cityscape. Throughout their relationship John had always joked Logan would have to pick the ring out on her own, but he surprised her by doing it on his own. Afterwards, they met up with his sister and friends at a local pub to spend the rest of the night celebrating.
The wedding itself went seamlessly, and Logan recalls never wanting the night to end. They chose an elegant theme with modern touches and had peonies shipped from Alaska. The English Garden style was the focus, and they kept the color palette simple with whites and greens. They had a watercolor map of Blacksburg made for their welcome bags, which the couple now has framed in the guest room of their home. Held at the Blacksburg Country Club, the wedding was set with a perfect view of the mountains and valley from the patio, where they enjoyed signature cocktails – Logan’s Strawberry Lemonade and John’s Blackberry Bourbon.
The ceremony itself was very personal and special, as Deacon Mike made a point to get to know their families and friends so he could incorporate everyone into the ceremony. They capped the night off with fireworks from the 10th fairway.
