Wedding Wednesday: The Turpin Wedding

The Turpin Wedding | July 7, 2018 | Photography by Kristen H Photography and Kristina Lynn Photography

Sarah Kennedy and Casey Turpin met through mutual friends in high school, but didn’t become close friends until they worked together as lifeguards over summer break. In their later years of college, the two eventually started dating.

Casey and Sarah were at the beach for a weekend when Sarah suspected he would propose. She knew he’d asked for her parents’ permission before they’d left, so she spent the entire weekend waiting for it to happen. The weather was poor all morning, however, derailing their plans, and all Sarah kept thinking to herself was this is not romantic! When the sun finally came out, they went to sit on the beach. Sarah noticed that Casey was quieter than he usually was, and was constantly on his phone. (Which she would later find out was because he was trying to plan the evening but had lost her friend’s number and was frantically trying to get in touch with her!)

As the afternoon went on (and nothing was happening!), Sarah’s friend Betty texted her to go walk on the beach get dinner. It was a beautiful sunset, and as the three of them walked along the beach, Casey and Betty fell behind. Casey called Sarah’s name, and when she turned around he was on one knee, and Betty was standing close by taking pictures. Sarah went running up to him in excitement, and now she can’t remember anything he said to her because she was so happy with tears of joy as he asked her to marry him.

Sarah looks back on their wedding day and fondly remembers the little jokes they’d whispered to each other during the ceremony that no one else could hear. Casey remembers seeing Sarah walk down the aisle, looking more beautiful than he ever could have imagined in her dress. The couple swears the secret to the perfect weather on their wedding day was burying a bottle of bourbon upside down at the ceremony site beforehand. The reception was full of fun as old friends caught up with each other over dancing, corn hole and yard Jenga. They even broke out glow sticks and popsicles towards the end of the night, and the couple was sent off with sparklers.
