Wedding Wednesday: The LaBarre Wedding
The LaBarre Wedding | August 25, 2018 | Photography by Nicole Colwell Photography
Stephanie Wheeler and Kyle LaBarre met online while living in different cities, a fact that shocks people when they hear the story, but Stephanie swears they never would have met otherwise. Kyle proposed on Christmas Eve in an intimate setting with family and the help of his four-legged friend. Stephanie had thought he’d just bought a new collar for the dog, but upon further inspection, she realized the tag said, “Mom, will you marry my dad?” When she looked up, Kyle was on one knee.
Stephanie and Kyle both work and live in downtown Roanoke, and it was where the two fell in love, so they really wanted to highlight the city for their wedding. They had the ceremony at the Century Plaza and their reception at the City Market Building, and made an effort to use all local vendors. They ended up using as many spaces as they could find downtown for their photos, including their apartment building, the courthouse lawn and random parking lots. They also had their guests stay downtown so they could get the full experience of the city.
Stephanie’s background is in interior design and Kyle’s is in architectural design, so the aesthetics of their wedding were very important to them. The day was full of unique touches like different flavored cakes as centerpieces on every table and handmade cement coasters for each guest that were dipped in gold paint and stamped with the couple’s initials and wedding date.
One of Stephanie’s favorite memories of the day was walking from the lawn where they took their pictures to the ceremony. It was just the couple and their photographers, and they were able to capture some of her favorite shots of the day while also finding some alone time before seeing all of their friends and family. It was the perfect opportunity to breathe and enjoy some time together.
