Kelsey Webb and Hunter Miller are both Roanoke natives and had mutual friends growing up, but the two didn’t formally meet until Thanksgiving Eve of 2013. Both had moved to Charlotte, Hunter 10 years before Kelsey, so Kelsey asked him to introduce her to some people. After that the two started bumping into each other everywhere, and Hunter finally got her number at a New Year’s Eve party. On the way to Charleston meet up with some friends for Kelsey’s birthday, Hunter took Kelsey to Philadelphia Alley, where he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Still in a daze and over the moon, they then walked into a pub where they found their families waiting for them.

In a few words, their wedding was intimate, charming, organic and festive. The venue and guest list were fairly large, but it was important to Kelsey to strive for intimacy. When thinking about décor, Kelsey described the process as requiring a ballet of balancing their aesthetic and emotions – all while honoring the space. She wanted it to feel like they were in a massive living room…with a killer band and open bar, so she brought in a lot of pieces from their home that blended in well with the event space.

The day was also full of meaningful dedications for those who couldn’t be with them on their special day. With the help of an Etsy designer, they created a crest that included their dogs which was on a variety of printed materials throughout the ceremony and reception to have their four-legged friends included in the day. The couple also lost a dear friend Cory prior to the wedding, so in his honor Hunter held an open spot for him in his groomsmen lineup, and they hung Cory’s hammock at the outside bar with his favorite liquor, so they could “cheers” him throughout the night. And to include Kelsey’s paternal grandmother who had passed away in June of 2007 in the wedding, she created hair clips from her grandmother’s former costume jewelry to wear as her something old.

Although Kelsey admits she’d dreaded walking down the aisle with so many eyes on her, that moment ending up being both Kelsey’s and Hunter’s favorite of the day. The mountain view was stunning, and seeing all of their closest friends and family was a heartwarming experience. Kelsey will never forget peeping around the white gauze at the start of the aisle, and finally being able to make eye contact with Hunter.
