Wedding Wednesday: The Harris Wedding

The Harris Wedding | October 13, 2018 | Photography by Ellie Richardson Photography

Erin Marshall and Zachary Harris had known each other since middle school, something the two laugh about now since one of their first memorable interactions included Zachary throwing Erin’s pocketbook across the room in 7th grade. The two started dating their junior year of high school – the classic high school sweetheart story. He played basketball and she cheered, and they’ve been in love ever since.

Erin had just ordered her favorite dessert, deep fried Oreo’s, at one of their favorite restaurants, Cotton at Riverside Mill, when Erin wandered off to look at the river with Zachary’s younger brother. The two circled the building and came back in through a different door, and Erin was very confused as to why everyone was looking at the door she’d left from. Then she noticed the ring in her dessert, and all she could say was OH!

Erin opted for the colors maroon and navy since Erin graduated from Virginia Tech and Zachary is a Virginia State Trooper. With accents of gold and champagne, the colors came together perfectly for a fall wedding. To really play up the fall theme, they had decorative pumpkins scattered everywhere, and used Zachary’s grandmother’s amazing carrot cake recipe for their wedding cake. To honor the grandparents and other loved ones who could not be there for their special day, Erin had a “memory table” with special photos, and had small sachets of bird seed given out in remembrance of these loved ones.

Before the ceremony, Erin shared a moment with her parents. Her father had just retired from the fire department, and her mom took one of his old shirts and had “Mrs. Harris 10.18.2018” embroidered on it. She sewed it into Erin’s dress as her “something blue.” One of the most memorable parts of the night, however, was at the end when the DJ absolutely blared “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC for an epic last dance. All that was left was the wedding party and the family, and they even got the wait staff out on the dance floor for an unforgettable end of a perfect day.
