Wedding Wednesday: The Bailey Wedding

The Bailey Wedding | April 29, 2017 | Photography by: Kemper Mills Fant Photography

Courtney Rocovich and Shelby Bailey met at a mutual friends house and instantly connected. They stayed up most of the night talking and when Courtney left the next day, Shelby made sure to get her number. Later they talked on the phone for six hours straight and the rest is history. During a late night walk along the beach in Playa del Carmen, Shelby nervously got down on one knee and proclaimed that he never wanted to live one day of his life without her. Courtney's engagement ring is made of sequoia wood, which is symbolic of their first trip as a couple to the Sequoia National Forest.

The couple's favorite wedding day memory was when Courtney, Shelby and Harper, their flower girl and Courtney's daughter, gathered together to a tree watering ritual. They watered a magnolia tree that would later be planted in their yard. Harper was so excited and happy for the family that she cried, making the moment just a bit more special for everyone. Some of the unique features of the wedding include a nondenominational ceremony and personalized wedding vows that embodied both their traditional values and the individual characteristics that make them a unique couple. The couple decided not to ask for gifts and instead asked guests to bring stuffed animals for the pediatric patients at Carilion Clinic where Courtney works.

Wedding Wednesday: The Gunn Wedding

The Gunn Wedding | November 12, 2016 | Photography by: Billie Jo Gwaltney Photography

Rebekah Bradley and Daniel Gunn met thanks to a summer internship at the North Carolina Senate. The couple went hiking, where they planned on taking pictures to commemorate their first hike up McAfee's Knob. Rebekah brought a camera and a tripod and after she set the timer to snap a picture of them with the scenery, Daniel got down on one knee. He managed to capture Rebekah's reaction to the proposal on camera, something that she loves.

The couple had only recently moved to Roanoke before the proposal, and Rebekah says that being able to show her out-of-town guests her new home made her wedding unique. Having the ceremony at the church that they joined shortly after moving was another special aspect for both Rebekah and Daniel. The two-tone bridesmaids dressed and the heavy greenery with white accents in the floral arrangements painted Rebekah's vision of late fall perfectly. Rebekah's favorite memory of the day was when her maid of honor sang "Ave Maria" at the wedding and gave Rebekah a chance to look around and really take in the day.

Wedding Wednesday: The Tyson-Williams Wedding

The Tyson-Williams Wedding | October 22, 2016 | Photography by: Sue Campbell & Leanne Creger

Matthew Tyson and Erik Williams had an "extraordinary amount of luck on their side" when they found each other online. One night when Matthew was staying up late studying for a nursing school final, Erik surprised him by coming around the corner wearing a suit and holding a package. After managing to make both of them laugh and cry, Erik proposed with a Cartier engagement ring, exactly what Matthew always wanted.

Matthew says that his favorite part of the wedding was the recitation of the vows because they were taken from a passage in "Jane Eyre," his favorite book. Erik's favorite was the "warming of the rings" where the couple passed their rings around and asked guests to pray or bless them. Some other special aspects of the wedding include the books and paper items doubling as decor and gifts, and the "Harry Potter" themed cake topper and guest book. The Corinthian Ballroom added the charm of a library to the occasion, making the atmosphere even more magical. The couple says that the inclusion of their favorite activity, reading, into the reception and ceremony made the wedding unique.
