Chris & Sarah Shorts | October 5, 2013 | Photography by William Mahone Photography
Thanks to Sarah's brother-in-law for ambushing her by inviting Chris to a family cookout, Sarah and Chris soon became inseparable. While Sarah is from Roanoke, Chris is from Virginia Beach and wanted his hometown to be involved somehow in the wedding. While Sarah visited for July 4th weekend, they went for a walk on the beach. Once seated, Chris got down on one knee and proposed. Sarah's favorite memory is when her brother stepped in for the father-daughter dance, as their parents are no longer with them. They danced to "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle as it was the song she would've danced to with her father. Two chairs in the front row of the ceremony honored her parents, with her dad's hat and cane in one chair and her mother's scarf and family Bible in the other. Their outdoor wedding combined fall and country-themed elements, with bridesmaids wearing burnt orange dresses and carrying burned orange and burgundy hydrangeas. The ceremony had a sand-blending moment, with sand from Chicks Beach (where Chris proposed and is from) and sand from the creek bed on Sarah's family farm. Table centerpieces were made with help from their family, with ivory table cloths with burlap in the center and flower-filled Mason jars on top of wood pieces. The couple gave their guests honey bear jars with honey from the family farm and had plenty of fall desserts to make everyone happy. Sarah and Chris spent five nights in Key West, FL and seven nights in Hope Town, Abaco in the Bahamas so they could spend time together in a warm setting while celebrating their new marriage.
