Wedding Wednesday: The Addington Wedding

The Addington Wedding | October 14, 2017 | Photography by: Hope Taylor Photography

Melissa Brown and John Addington dated in high school, and even then they had an immediate connection. After going their separate ways after John left for college, they found, 14 years later, when they happened to be in the same local restaurant, that their connection was still as strong as ever. Melissa, who had moved back into town and found the dating pool to be shallow, thought about John and wondered what he had been up to. She saw him in the restaurant, and went up to him to say hi. John saw that Melissa was as beautiful and bubbly as ever, so he asked her out two nights later, and the rest is history. In December of 2016, John and Melissa were renovating her grandmother's house, and inside one of the cleared-out rooms was a wrapped present for Melissa. She opened it to see some chocolates and a photo album dedicated to their "Nexts," such as their "Next Smile" or "Next Kiss." John then got down on one knee and proposed to Melissa in a moment that was so special to her because of all of the good times that she'd had with her family in that room.

Melissa and John's wedding was tailored to their personalities perfectly. The festive fall ceremony was Melissa's favorite memory from the day because she was ecstatic to be marrying her best friend and "starting our forever officially." The joyful occasion was made special by the couple's first look, in which John was overcome with emotion seeing his bride. "I've never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life," John says. It was important to the couple to involve their family in their special day, and so they decided that Melissa's aunt and uncle's farm in Bridgewater, VA was the perfect place to tie the knot, because they had had so many good memories there. Melissa and John wanted their guests to have the time of their lives at their wedding, so, thanks to a lively band and the jars of applebutter that guests took home as favors at the end of the night, the rustic farm wedding was a celebration that they would cherish forever.

Wedding Wednesday: The McIntosh Wedding

The McIntosh Wedding | October 8, 2016 | Photography by: Lesley Wray

Christine Campbell and Jason McIntosh met after being introduced by Christine's sister and her boyfriend. The two met for dinner and have been together ever since. Jason later proposed on a trip to Nashville when the couple visited for New Year's Eve.

The unique centerpieces full of candles, deer antlers and pumpkins accentuated the rustic and classy theme of the wedding. With colors of antique gold, blush and ivory, and a naked cake covered in cupcakes, this outdoor wedding had many unique touches. The venue itself was unique because it was Christine's parents house on Smith Mountain Lake. Christine says that one of the most memorable parts of the day was being surrounded by friends and family, many of whom she had not seen in years. Another sweet and unique touch to the ceremony was when Christine's four sons walked her down the aisle to meet their new father.

Wedding Wednesday: The Cobb Wedding

The Cobb Wedding | September 13, 2016 | Photography by: Charles Townsend Photography

KT and Travis Cobb first met while working as whitewater raft guides, enjoying their days off together with kayaking and boating on the river. While on a hike to one of their favorite spots at Wonder Falls, Travis pretended to want a break so they could enjoy hot cider. Instead, he pulled out a box with a hand-crafted engagement bracelet, with pictures drawn from their adventures together. He had a matching one for himself if she said yes and of course she did!

For the big wedding day, family and friends gathered to raft on the Upper Gauley River with the couple. From breakfast in the morning to beers at the end and all the whitewater rafting in between, KT says it was a perfect day. She and Travis enjoy a game of Gauntlet (not for the faint of heart), and they were excited to share the tradition with their friends and family. KT says their love and support, showing from set up and tear down and partying hard together, was the such a highlight of their time together. Along with the silver bracelets, Travis also created KT's wedding earrings, made from the steering linkage of their sailboat. While they credit the river community for their unique wedding day, they of course were excited to share their second home and love of whitewater with their loved ones. The newlyweds also enjoyed a just-for-them rat over a Class V, adding to their perfect weekend.
