Wedding Wednesday: The Boylan Wedding

The Boylan Wedding | October 17, 2015 | Photography by: Kemper Mills Fant Photography

Mary and Chris met through the powers of their matchmaking friends. When Chris proposed, he went into her apartment while she was at work and decorated it with rose petals. Mary had had no idea what he’d been up to, so to say she was shocked when she arrived home was an understatement. That didn’t stop her from enthusiastically saying “Yes!” though.

Mary's favorite part of the wedding was seeing all their loved ones in the same place at the same time and getting to celebrate the day with them.

Instead of a wedding cake, Mary and Chris decided to serve a wedding pie and an assortment of mini desserts.

The theme for their wedding was an enchanted forest. They set the ceremony up under a large tree, using metallic gold and silver decorations with moss and wooden touches. Their flowers were lush green, with orange and purple accents. Around the bar they used logs, stumps, lanterns and candles to create an enchanting atmosphere. Another big hit were the gold animal place card holders and the drink stirrers.

Their favorite decoration though was the surprise chandelier from Mary’s mother and godmother. They had covered it in moss and wrapped it in grapevines, and they hung it from the tree the couple got married under.

Wedding Wednesday: The Hoogland Wedding

The Hoogland Wedding | July 4, 2015 | Photography by Noah Magnifico- Photographer

After being a track athlete all her life, Kathleen was used to being chased. It wasn’t until she was at a party and met Matt, though, that her running days were finally over. The proposal took place at the Smithfield plantation, which was the location where their relationship really developed during a Cross Country meet in 2012. Matt developed an intricate scavenger hunt all around Blacksburg that led Kathleen to various important locations in their relationship. By the end of the hunt, Matt was waiting for Kathleen and proposed to her in a song he had written especially for that moment.

The wedding day was held on July 4th, but instead of going all out in red, white, and, blue, the couple decided to do a color scheme of soft pink, navy blue, ivory, and gold. This way the Fourth of July theme was still present, but not overwhelming. The night ended with a fireworks show put on by Skypainter and it was a beautiful way to have an exit for their big day.

The couple loved planning their wedding day, too. The vendors were fun and made a great connection with the couple as well as their photographer who came up with amazing and unique ideas for their photos. The caterer went above and beyond that night by having a waiter come to the bride and groom to serve them so that the couple didn’t have to leave their guests!

The best part of the the day, however, was the couple’s first dance. It was made extra fun because the couple hadn’t practiced beforehand, so they made it up as they went along. Their song was special to them, and even though it wasn’t well known, it helped to cement their love and pave the way into a beautiful marriage.

Wedding Wednesday: The Beiswanger Wedding

The Beiswanger Wedding | October 11, 2014 | Photography by Blake Prim Photography

Corey and Emily met while they were classmates at Longwood University. Emily was in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Corey was in the Sigma fraternity, and both spent nearly two years as friends before they started dating. Corey moved into Emily's apartment complex when she was a senior. She had him over for dinner one night, and they gradually began spending a lot of time together at the complex' pool. Soon after, Corey and Emily started dating officially.

Corey staged a casual proposal at the couple's apartment in Roanoke. As Emily was getting ready for a night-out downtown, Corey turned on their song: Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. Nervously, Corey got down on one knee and said to Emily "you're the only one for me!" Though shocked at first, Emily happily said yes.

Emily and Corey had a rustic themed ceremony at the beautiful Santillane. Their wedding colors--bold royal blue and soft cream and gold--complemented the lovely fall scenery. Elegant centerpieces consisting of colorful glass vases filled with spray roses, cream-colored lanterns, and tea candles made the reception pop, and the buttercream wedding cake adorned with blue pearls proved beautiful and delicious. For guests who didn't want cake, Emily and Corey included a cupcake tower stacked with chocolate raspberry and vanilla marble cupcakes with buttercream frosting. As an added treats, Corey and Emily gave out bags filled with s'mores ingredients as favors: a thoughtful and sweet touch.

One of the most special aspects of the ceremony for Emily was listening to Corey's handwritten vows, which he recited with tears in his eyes. The end of the wedding was also very emotional for the couple: Though it had been cloudy for most of the day, the sun finally came out during the reception, and both Emily and Corey were moved to tears.

For their honeymoon, Emily and Corey spent time relaxing at the Colonial Punta Canta Resort, an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic.
