Wedding Wednesday: The Carver Wedding

The Carver Wedding | December 2, 2017 | Photography by: Stephanie Parker Photography

After Lucas Carver met Kimberly Hughes while playing football on the Virginia Tech drillfield with friends, Kimberly made sure to add Lucas on Facebook. Kimberly's father had a rule for her: she couldn't get engaged until she graduated college with a bachelor's degree. The day after she graduated in December of 2015, Lucas created a driving tour around their favorite spots in Blacksburg and Christiansburg, ending up back on the drillfield, where Lucas got down on one knee and asked Kimberly to be his wife.

The couple's winter wedding was timeless, with its colors being white, navy blue and silver. The ceremony was performed by Lucas' father, a Baptist preacher, and the reception was everything that the couple had hoped for. However, their favorite memory of the day was when Lucas' fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, gathered together in a circle around the couple and sang a beautiful hymn, seeming to almost bless the marriage, making Kimberly tear up because of how much it meant to her. Because Virginia Tech played such a pivotal role in Lucas and Kimberly's relationship, and because many of the wedding guests had either gone to Tech or were fans, the Hokie Bird came and took pictures with the guests, allowing for the couple to celebrate their big day with a fun and personal touch.

Wedding Wednesday: The Driscoll Wedding

The Driscoll Wedding | November 11, 2017 | Photography by: Noah Magnifico Photographer

Aimee Tolbert and Chris Driscoll were just friends in high school until Chris realized that he needed a date to his senior prom. He jumped at the chance to plan an elaborate first date, and on Aimee's parents' farm, he set up canvases and paints. After painting a picture of the sunset, the two began their romance. One evening, Aimee returned home from work and discovered a ribbon winding through her home. At the end of this ribbon was a paintbrush and a note that read, "Follow Me." Aimee discovered that Chris was outside on one knee, and beside him was a canvas with words painted on it: "Aimee Tolbert, will you marry me?" Chris would not accept Aimee's "yes" until she had painted it on the canvas as well.

Because the couple graduated from Virginia Tech, they felt that it was a perfect place for them to exchange their vows. When the couple found while planning their wedding that their venue and chosen vendors were available on the same date, they took it as a "heavenly sign" that they should become one. Their special day reflected the importance of God, family and friends, while Aimee's brother-in-law serenaded the couple during the ceremony. It was an emotional moment as the couple "felt thankful to have found one another and embark on this journey together." Because the couple's Virginia Tech background is so important to them, they and the wedding party entered the reception to "Enter Sandman," and the Hokie mascot joined them for a dance during the reception, giving a unique and fun spin on a beautiful and meaningful day.

Wedding Wednesday: The Morrell Wedding

The Morrell Wedding | October 1, 2016 | Photography by: Skyryder Photography

Lindsey and Matt first met while she was waiting tables in Radford. Matt was a regular customer, and they got to know each other during her shifts. After Lindsey completed nursing school, the two were able to spend time together outside of the restaurant and became an official couple. During a trip to Gatlinburg, Matt and Lindsey got on the ski lift; there, Matt realized his love for Lindsey. Years later, Matt took her to that same spot to propose. As it turned out, he'd had her custom antique ring for three years, purchasing it the day she fell in love with it and listening to her wishes of how she'd wear the special piece.

While Matt wanted Hokie colors for a palette, he went for colorful Hokie socks so LIndsey could have her choice of aubergine and gold. The bridesmaids wore long purple gowns, with beautiful bouquets to match. It's hard for Lindsey to pick only one memorable wedding day moment, as she holds all of them dear to her heart, as "everything was perfect!" Along with the fabulous night, the newylweds - bourbon lovers - added a bourbon and cigar bar to their reception, which turned out to be a smashing success for their guests. Lindsey personally picked out all of their decor, which either came from their home, or is now something in their home, incorporating their new life together.
