Wedding Wednesday: The Harris Wedding

The Harris Wedding | September 27, 2014 | Photography by Anna Bowser Photography

Jessica and Josh met at Randolph-Macon College, where she was his math tutor. Initially, the two didn't get along, but they spoke again by chance at a senior function, and Josh impressed Jessica with his dance moves. Since then, they've been inseparable.

The couple was planning a "Best Friends Weekend" together when Josh said he had a poem to kick off the festivities. When he started reading, he began sweating and shaking, clearly nervous about something. Sure enough, the last line of the poem ended with "if she will say yes" and a surprise proposal. Of course, Jessica, who couldn't help but laugh at the situation, was happy to say yes.

Every detail of the couple's wedding was a huge success. The venue, Douthat State Park, was a gorgeous backdrop, and provided a picturesque place for Jessica and Josh's families to stay for the weekend. It was relaxed, serene, and budget friendly. The scenery really complemented the flowers and garland, which were a perfect replica of Jessica's pinterest-inspired vision. Jessica also worked hard collecting various items for centerpieces. She found a lot of lanterns that added to the woodsy atmosphere, and spent a lot of time hunting for mercury glass for the candle holders. Additionally, personal vows that Jessica and Josh helped write made the ceremony particularly unique, and the pair both enjoyed having a lot of control over the wedding planning. One of their favorite choices was including a photo booth where guests could take pictures. The guests loved it, and Jessica and Josh walked away with a scrapbook full of priceless memories.

Though every aspect of the wedding went wonderfully, Jessica says that it was all the friends and family present that truly made the evening spectacular. Many of the guests lent helping hands and worked with Jessica to create a welcoming and fun celebration. One of the most memorable and intimate aspects of the night was the last song--"I've Had the Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. All of Jessica and Josh's friends joined them in a circle singing and dancing to bid the couple a happy marriage. This, Jessica recalls, was unforgettable.
