Wedding Wednesday: The Tangney Wedding

The Tangney Wedding | October 8, 2017 | Photography by: Patrick Perkins Photography

Kylie Ress Met Ryan Tangney in downtown Roanoke in 2013, and their first date was at a local restaurant, The Quarter, where romance was as much on the menu as Louisiana cuisine. Since the couple love to take occasional day trips to Chateau Morrisette Winery in Floyd, VA, Ryan thought that this location would be perfect to propose to Kylie. He coordinated a trip to the winery, a trip that Kylie assumed would just be made up of fun wine tasting and picnicking. It turned out to be the best surprise of her life when, while posing for a photo, Ryan asked her to be his wife.

The couple's celebration was held in the garden courtyard of The Hotel Roanoke, with strings of lights and greenery accents to help create a neutral and elegant ceremony. Even though an outdoor ceremony can be risky with the threat of bad weather, the bride and groom had their hearts set on the location. Their timing was perfect: as soon as the ceremony concluded and guests began to make their way inside, it began to rain. Opting for something a little different from the traditional wedding cake, the couple chose to serve donuts on a stand that Kylie's father had made. The perfect location of The Hotel Roanoke allowed for guests to not only enjoy themselves while helping Ryan and Kylie celebrate becoming husband and wife, but explore downtown Roanoke during the weekend. The couple relished spending time with all of their guests. "Time spent with others is what creates the best memories!" Kylie says.

Wedding Wednesday: The Hamden Wedding

The Hamden Wedding | August 12, 2017 | Photography by: Ryan & Ahren Photography

When Lindsey Cusimano was in high school, she was on the volleyball team. After one of her games, then-football player Cameron Hamden, in the stands with his team, went to go buy food, and he asked her if she wanted anything. The rest was history.  On a beautiful October day, Lindsey, expecting a double date picnic with Lindsey's best friend and her boyfriend, accompanied Cam to a spot on private property. He brought her to a barn strung with lights and presented her with an early birthday gift: a little journal. When Lindsey opened it, she found that it was Cam's journal that he had been keeping for the past two years, starting on the day that he knew he loved Lindsey and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. As Lindsey read the last words in the journal, Cam led her to the middle of the barn and got down on one knee and proposed.

The couple's favorite memory of their special day was seeing each other at the ceremony: Cam, standing at the end of the aisle, waiting to spend the rest of his life with his bride, and Lindsey, walking down that aisle to the man that she loves most. Even though many of the couple's friends and family were there to help them celebrate, "I felt like it was just me and Cam," Lindsey says. With a venue that allowed the couple to explore their elegant yet rustic theme as well as providing the perfect location to accommodate out-of-town guests, the couple's wedding was brought to life. The night of fun and lively dancing was the perfect end to a celebration that not only honored the love of Cam and Lindsey, but also their appreciation for Blacksburg, the town where they met and cultivated that love.

Wedding Wednesday: The Clark Wedding

The Clark Wedding | June 21, 2014 | Photography by Photographic Dreams

Though Samantha and Brendan lived right across from each other in college, the two didn't officially meet until they both had graduated, and, even then, it was by complete chance.

Considering the couple met in Blacksburg, Brendan decided to take Samantha back to the vibrant college town for his proposal. They spent a romantic day visiting their favorite local places and then shared diner at the Palisades restaurant. Brendan proposed after desert and was met with booming applause from the entire restaurant and a "yes!" from Samantha, of course.

The wedding also took place in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech alumni, Samantha and Brendan both love Blacksburg and consider it their forever home. It holds a great deal of significance to both their families and to them as a couple. The beautiful scenery of the Blacksburg Country Club was an added bonus and created a picturesque backdrop for their reception.

Brendan and Samantha wanted their wedding to have plenty of personal touches. Two of the couple's favorite books, "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Call of the Wild," were used as ring bearer "pillows," and, rather than traditional boutonnieres, the groomsmen donned fly fishing flies. Additionally, bits and pieces of Hokie memorabilia were used as decorations throughout the venue as an added nod to the couple's alma matter. These details created a portrait of the bride and groom's passions and hobbies and allowed them to use their crafting skills together in order to create a deeply personal and unique celebration.

One of the most memorable aspects of the celebration for Samantha was dancing with all the guests at the reception. She described the feeling of celebrating with friends and loved ones as "entirely magical." At the end of the evening, her, Brendan, and some of their closest friends danced together to Pharell Williams' "Happy," which captured the mood of the reception perfectly. Samantha also noted how beautifully her flowers and wedding cake matched the look and feel of the reception. Everything "fit perfectly," she said.
