Wedding Wednesday: The Parker Wedding

The Parker Wedding | June 14, 2014 | Photography by Enigma Photography

Will and Sarah went met each other in high school, and were good friends for five years before they started dating in college. Many years later, the two are still inseparable.

Though Sarah and Will had been dating for six years at the time of Will's proposal, Sarah was still completely surprised by the gesture. It was Memorial Day, and Sarah and Will decided to go down to the James River together. Will took Sarah for a canoe ride and then popped the question while she was turning to get out of the canoe. Sarah said yes, of course, but still made Will put the ring back in its ring box for fear she would lose it in the river.

Sarah and Will chose the Trivium as their wedding venue because of its gorgeous views of The Peaks of Otter and lush green scenery. The ceremony was planned for a beautiful spring day, so the couple decided to have "daisy and springtime" themed wedding colors. The bridesmaids wore Kelly green dresses, while the groomsmen wore grey suits with bright yellow ties.

When it came time for the reception, Sarah and Will wanted to make sure all the guests were enjoying themselves fully. Music and dancing was a huge part of the celebration. Their DJ, Russel Prusak, was a good friend from high school, and kept the music going all night long. The playlist included songs for all ages and some special requests. Luckily, the Trivium Ballroom had a huge dance floor, which gave every guest the opportunity to let loose with the bride and groom. A photo booth set up by the venue was a great way to capture priceless and hilarious memories, many of which were recorded in a scrapbook for the couple.

For their menu, Sarah and Will kept it casual and laid-back. Avenue Foods Catering provided delicious comfort foods like BBQ, mac and cheese, and "cake ball" desserts, which were a huge hit.

Sarah's little sister made home-blown glass flower vases for table centerpieces, and at the end of the wedding, all guests were invited to take one of the unique works of art home. This way, every guest got to have a special piece of Will and Sarah's celebration for themselves.

Wedding Wednesday: The Douglas Wedding

Matt & K. Paige Douglas | July 2, 2013 | Photography by Pat Cori Photography

Matt and Paige met in a class taken at Virginia Western Community college. Matt proposed twice - once at the Space Needle in Seattle, WA and then in Radford, VA (Paige said yes both times, but her fear of heights probably made the Radford one a little more comfortable!). The couple later went on vacation; while sitting on a balcony looking out at the ocean, they decided on a whim to get married on the beach. When Paige expressed her wish to get married there, Matt simple said, "Why not?" Even with the last minute request, their family came together for the occasion, including Paige's uncle who got them a wedding cake, and a family friend who took photos of the special event. Paige decided to incorporate several beach elements into their reception, held two months later, which allowed celebration with friends and family. The colors were of the beach sunset, from the flowers and centerpieces down to the signature drink (a concoction of mango rum, pineapple-orange juice, and splash of grenadine). Paige's bridal bouquet had greenery, sunset roses, pink and purple carnations, and bright colors. Even their wedding cake was decorated with starfish and bright flowers to round out the tropical theme. Paige says their wedding was unique thanks to the private ceremony where they could simply focus on each other.

Wedding Wednesday: The Craft Wedding (2014 Cover Couple!)

Jared & Chelsey Craft | May 11, 2013 | Photography by Tara Lilly Design & Photography

High school sweethearts Jared and Chelsey got engaged after he surprised her in 2012 with a special little ring box. Chelsey got around Jared's "all-camo wedding" wishes by throwing a true southern wedding. Hay bales, rustic decor, and other small details lent to the shabby chic theme. In addition to the decor, they had a local artist wood burn their initials with hearts, mason jars, and other unique designs on wood chips. Magnets were placed on the back so guests could take those home as favors to display their photos. For their unity ceremony, the couple collected soil from their childhood homes, as well as their new house, and planted a few flower seeds to help their love grow; it now stands in a mason jar in their new home. Believe or not, Chelsey's favorite memory from her wedding day was when it rained! Chelsey says she couldn't help but laugh as her bridesmaids raced back to the covered porch to wait for the rain to pass; luckily it did after just a few minutes, with nothing but sunshine for the rest of her perfect day. Chelsey and Jared celebrated their marriage by honeymooning in Negril, Jamaica at Sunset at the Palms, a "tree house" resort.
