Wedding Wednesday: The Quill Wedding

Chad & Ashlea Quill | September 7, 2013 | Photography by Bombs Over Betty

Little did Ashlea know that her love of beach volleyball would also lead to the love of her life. After meeting in Baltimore over a game, Ashlea and Chad began dating. For her 30th birthday, she met Chad in London to celebrate while he was visiting for work. After a few days there, they traveled to Rome for sight-seeing. After a classic Italian lunch, Chad took Ashlea to Rome's largest central park and guided her over to the famous lake where he proposed. Because it was important to the couple to have personal touches throughout their special day, the bride's bouquet was a combination of real flowers and brooches given to her at her bridal shower and family. Each bridesmaid's bouquet also had a brooch, plus Ashlea had one in her hair. Wedding colors of purple, apple green, and black were chosen as the palette (purple is in both the Vikings and Ravens team colors to represent the bride and groom), with calla lilies at both the ceremony and reception. A 5-layer cake had three different flavors, along with decorated tuxedo and bride strawberries. Roanoke's Star City Line Trolleys transported guests to and from Hotel Roanoke to the church. Guests received boxes of chocolate truffles from the couple's favorite chocolatier, Naron Chocolates, and individually boxed mints from chocolatepaper. The happy couple honeymooned on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Wedding Wednesday: The Bailey Wedding

Ben & Hannah Bailey | June 8, 2013 | Photography by Lori Hedrick Photography

Despite meeting their senior year of high school, it was thanks to bumping into one another almost daily at their college, Liberty University, that Hannah and Ben met and began dating. For Ben's proposal, he got creative with a hike to the top of Peaks of Otter. Not only did he propose to her at a gorgeous location, but when they got off the mountain, Hannah walked into a surprise picnic dinner with their families to celebrate! Hannah has two great memories of her wedding day, the first of which was walking down the aisle to Ben. The second was when she felt a bug on her back! She nudged her dad during prayer, who saved the day by swatting it away and making Hannah laugh. Ben's grandfather officiated, marrying them in the church Hannah grew up in. Purple and silver added to the classic, vintage theme, especially with Hannah's all lace, mermaid style gown with short birdcage veil, 1972 red Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible as their getaway car, and a first dance to "At Last" by Etta James. Personal touches such as Hannah's bouquet (with lace from her mother's wedding dress) and the groom's cake (a WVU basketball court) made the day even more special for them. The newlyweds honeymooned in Charleston, SC since they both love the history and southern charm of the city.

Wedding Wednesday: The Gower Wedding

Jon & Becky Gower | April 27, 2013 | Photography by Photographic Dreams

Jon Gower managed to surprise Becky with an Asian-inspired cold pasta dinner picnic on the beach, where he later proposed. Becky's veil was unique for her wedding. A princess style cut and made of Belgium lace, Becky is the fourth generation to wear the veil (first worn by her great grandmother on her wedding day!). Becky's Slovenian heritage were honored with two special Slovenian desserts, while they incorporated military traditions in for Jon's Navy Lieutenant position. Their purple decor stood out in the details, including Becky's purple shoes. Becky says one of her favorite moments of the wedding day was when she took Jon's hand after walking down the aisle. "Holding hands is something we do quite often, so holding his hand was something very normal in a very unique moment...It was special because it was exclusive to us."
