Wedding Wednesday: The Hiner Wedding

Paul & Kira Hiner | October 12, 2013 | Photography by Stephen Mills Photography

After meeting each other at work and becoming an inseparable couple, Paul and Kira moved into their first home together years later. That big move wasn't the only one they would make together that weekend as Paul also proposed two days later. The couple loves everything fall related, so it only made sense for them to get married in October with a fall themed wedding and color scheme of orange, burgundy, and yellow. These colors were carefully weaved into the wedding party's outfits to match the gray dresses and suits. The décor featured leaves and pumpkins throughout as well as many monogrammed elements such as their wooden monogram used as a guestbook. Kira kept things very unique such as her walk down the aisle to "Marry Me" by Train instead of the traditional wedding march as well as having a floating votive candle for the Unity Candle portion of the ceremony. Other special elements included the personalized tank tops Kira made for her and her bridesmaids to get ready in, the monogrammed Chuck Taylors she wore for the reception to match the guys, and the officiant's guide dog who was present for the ceremony. The reception consisted of a passed hors d'oeuvres and cocktail hour plus a four course dinner including their wedding cake. The dance order was also nontraditional as Paul and his mother had the first dance, then Kira and her father with their choreographed dance to "Do You Love Me" by the Contours, and the couple's first dance to "Your Arms Feel Like Home" by 3 Doors Down. The fun didn't stop there! Paul returned for the garter toss in gym shorts and tall socks to do his best Risky Business impersonation. The couple gave engraved pint glasses as favors to their guests and also a pumpkin to take home with them. They ended their evening by driving away in the father of the groom's newly purchased 1980 baby blue Corvette, but they decided to come back. The couple continued their fun in their honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Wedding Wednesday: The Quill Wedding

Chad & Ashlea Quill | September 7, 2013 | Photography by Bombs Over Betty

Little did Ashlea know that her love of beach volleyball would also lead to the love of her life. After meeting in Baltimore over a game, Ashlea and Chad began dating. For her 30th birthday, she met Chad in London to celebrate while he was visiting for work. After a few days there, they traveled to Rome for sight-seeing. After a classic Italian lunch, Chad took Ashlea to Rome's largest central park and guided her over to the famous lake where he proposed. Because it was important to the couple to have personal touches throughout their special day, the bride's bouquet was a combination of real flowers and brooches given to her at her bridal shower and family. Each bridesmaid's bouquet also had a brooch, plus Ashlea had one in her hair. Wedding colors of purple, apple green, and black were chosen as the palette (purple is in both the Vikings and Ravens team colors to represent the bride and groom), with calla lilies at both the ceremony and reception. A 5-layer cake had three different flavors, along with decorated tuxedo and bride strawberries. Roanoke's Star City Line Trolleys transported guests to and from Hotel Roanoke to the church. Guests received boxes of chocolate truffles from the couple's favorite chocolatier, Naron Chocolates, and individually boxed mints from chocolatepaper. The happy couple honeymooned on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Wedding Wednesday: The Martin Wedding

Craig & Ashley Martin | June 29, 2013 | Photography by Kevin Hurley Photography

Ashley and Craig met through mutual friends while working in the Bridgewater area. Because she taught school in Roanoke while he was a police officer in Harrisonburg, much of their relationship was long-distance. On a very special weekend when Ashley went to visit, Craig was waiting for her on one knee next to a heart made from rose petals. The rose stems spelled out "Will you marry me?" Sixteen months later, the two were married on a beautiful day surrounded by friends and family. The ceremony took place in the church where Ashley grew up, while the reception was held at the country club where she'd spend much of her life swimming, playing tennis and golf, and working at the golf shop. Their wedding theme was simple but elegant, complemented by black and ivory colors with a touch of red. Bridesmaids wore simple black dresses and red shoes, while the groomsmen wore black tuxes and red ties. Red roses made for table centerpieces while the bridal bouquet had gorgeous shades of red. Guests received packets of coffee titled "The Perfect Blend" as party favors. The newly married Mr. and Mrs. Martin spent their wedding night at Hotel Roanoke and had brunch with the friends and family before they whisked off to their Hawaiian honeymoon.
