Wedding Wednesday: The Carlin Wedding

The Carlin Wedding | December 16, 2017 | Photography by: Edmiston Photography

When Emily Ditto and Tyler Carlin matched on Tinder, they had no idea that, a couple years after their initial conversations about their interests and puppies, they'd be engaged to be married. For their first date, Tyler picked up Emily for a pajama-clad adventure, and they drove to Virginia Beach. There, in the rain on the boardwalk, Tyler kissed her.  Fast forward two years, and in the rain at Dave Matthew's vineyard, Blenheim Vineyard, while they were wandering through the grapevines, Tyler got down on one knee and asked Emily to be his wife. Tearing up, Emily immediately said yes.

The "snowy winter wonderland" theme of the wedding added to the inviting nature of Emily and Tyler's special day, complete with custom-designed snowflake projections on the walls and a snowy sendoff at the end of the night. Even the cake went along with the wintry theme: it was reminiscent of a snowy mountain with red velvet to match the bridesmaids' dresses and two bride-and-groom pine cones on the top. Emily and Tyler's favorite part of the day was hearing the speeches given during the reception. "Hearing the love and support from both families was incredible," Emily says. "On a day that was so rushed, it was a moment that allowed time to stand still and allowed for us to really reflect on what it meant that these two families would be joined forever." Adding a fun, unique flair, the couple incorporated a top hat into the wedding accents, as well as forgoing the traditional guest book for Christmas ornaments that wedding guests could sign. It was important to the couple to create the atmosphere of a Christmas wedding without going overboard, and the result was "romantic and intimate and loved by guests."

Wedding Wednesday: The Parker Wedding

The Parker Wedding | December 2, 2017 | Photography by: Anna Bowser Photography

Even though Hannah Mankin and David Parker attended Radford University together, they never knew each other. After their best friends introduced them, their romance began. "My future husband was under my nose the whole time!" Hannah says. Lola, the couple's adopted puggle (half pug, half beagle!), played a key role in David's proposal. While they were both at their home in Lynchburg, David encouraged Hannah to cuddle their pup, and she found the beautiful ring that he had attached to the dog's collar just as David popped the question.

The couple's special day was made even more enchanting by the Christmas spirit that surrounded them. Magic was in the air before the couple even exchanged their vows: there was a Christmas parade before the ceremony, and Hannah even got a picture with Santa! To give their wedding a personalized touch, the couple decided to display a unique donut bar during the reception, and their cake oozed rustic elegance. The bridesmaids wore furs to keep warm during photos, and Hannah says that they all looked "uniquely beautiful." Hannah and David's ceremony was very meaningful to them, with important Bible verses that reflected their relationship perfectly. The short-and-sweet elegance of the ceremony paired with the air of Christmas made the couple's day one that they and their guests will never forget.

Wedding Wednesday: The Gallagher Wedding

The Gallagher Wedding | October 15, 2016 | Photography by: Jeff Colquhoun Photography

Joshua and Matthew first met through Facebook, getting to know each other online before meeting in person for their first date. After that first date, Joshua says he knew he wanted to marry Matthew and they haven't spent more than a week apart since! For the proposal, Joshua made a special Christmas ornament filled with small strips of paper with their favorite quotes, sweet sayings and a large one that said "Will You Marry Me?" As he took the ornament out of the box, Joshua got to one knee, and was so nervous he skipped his speech and simply asked the question. Matthew immediately said yes, followed by asking if Joshua was okay!

Their rustic country wedding had colors of burgundy and gray with plum accents, as well as bits of burnt orange for Matthew. They incorporated burlap, baby's breath and old bed springs to make centerpieces, used an old farmhouse screen door to display childhood photos, used Longaberger baskets to display their wedding favors of lavender soap in burlap and dried lavender and birdseed hearts. Matthew and Joshua exchanged their own vows, which made them both even more excited about their future together. Their wine fountain was a huge hit, while their DJ kept the party going for the entire reception. Joshua says their wedding brought their entire family closer together, and those who attended could see the love between him and Matt; he adds they are very fortunate to have such supportive family and friends, which also helped during the entire wedding planning process to simply be together and enjoy the day.
