Wedding Wednesday: The Ally Wedding

Shaun & Jodi Ally | June 28, 2014 Photography by William Mahone Photography

Shaun knew he had his work cut out for him when deciding how to propose to Jodi. He knew she had a specific engagement ring in mind, so he consulted Jodi's best friend Kathleen to make sure he selected just the right one. As he had during their first Valentine's Day together, Shaun presented Jodi with a Coach purse, but this time there was more to the surprise. Inside the bag was a custom made ring to match the one from the picture Jodi sent Kathleen years ago. She was absolutely thrilled to see the ring of her dreams and to soon be marrying the man of her dreams. The couple found the perfect venue to help keep their rustic, vintage wedding simple yet beautiful. Because they let the mountaintop be their main backdrop, they were able to focus on more important decorative elements such as baby pictures of the bride and groom lining the aisle, wine from Chateau Morrisette used in the wooden wine box ceremony, and a guest book bench that Jodi's father handmade. The colors of the wedding were magenta, turquoise, and lilac, which were beautifully displayed in the "Best Day Ever" banner made by the couple, their parents, and the wedding party and hung behind the head table during the reception. Shaun and Jodi took the music selection at their wedding very seriously since Shaun is a musician. They found the perfect duo to perform songs during their ceremony such as "Let It Be Me" for Jodi's walk down the aisle and "You Are The Best Thing" for the couple's recessional. "Shelter" was the couple's first dance song, "Wildflowers" was sung for the father daughter dance, and Shaun and his mother danced to "How Sweet It Is." All these songs and more were combined to make a CD for guests to take as their favors. Food was also an important element for Shaun and Jodi. During the reception, guests dined on meatballs, veggie calzones, eggplant parmesan, and chicken bella. Their favorite memory of the night, though, was having a family friend read their responses to questions about their love for one another.

Wedding Wednesday: The Mansdoerfer Wedding

Michael & Catherine Mansdoerfer | May 24, 2014 Photography by Skyryder Photography LLC

Catherine was waiting on pins and needles for Michael to pop the question after ring shopping. After almost five years of dating, Michael picked a day to surprise her at her apartment in Richmond after telling her he would be working in Radford all weekend. She knew immediately that the moment she'd been waiting for was finally happening. The couple took a short vacation in the Outer Banks, NC to celebrate the proposal. Both Michael and Catherine being Virginia Tech alumni, there was no question that the theme of the wedding must be centered around their alma mater. The wedding colors were maroon and orange, which could be seen in everything from the bridesmaids' gowns to the flower arrangements and even Catherine's garter. The ceremony also had special elements such as the pastor's special speech about traditional wedding traditions. To keep things personal, the music choices were all favorites of the couple, their parents, and family friends. Additionally, Michael and Catherine honored military and emergency response members, donated to the Marching Virginians in honor of Ryan Clark and the Officer Deriek Crouse fund in place of favors, and donated the centerpieces to a local nursing home in honor of Catherine's Pop Pop. In keeping with their love of Virginia Tech, the Hokie Bird made an appearance to entertain guests during the reception.

Wedding Wednesday: The Bohanan Wedding

Samantha and Arnold Bohanan | December 8, 2012 | Photography by Winterberry Gallery

After meeting through their mutual interest of football at a Virgina Tech football tailgate Samantha Blevins and Arnold 'Arnie' Bohanan became close friends, which eventually led into true love. Arnie got down on one knee with his grandmother's diamond ring and asked Samantha to marry him. Since the couple met on Virgina Tech's campus this sparked an interest to get married right there on campus. The couple even had Hokie Bird as their ringbearer and a tailgate style reception in Lane Stadium. Samantha made many of the centerpieces and bouquet wraps as her mother designed the wedding invitations, which allowed the day to feel even more sentimental.
