Wedding Wednesday: The Coffey Wedding

The Coffey Wedding | April 30, 2016 | Photography by: Kimberly Izatt Photography

Laura Pruner's and Eric Coffey's first date was a long time in the making. They first met online, exchanging emails and phone calls, before finally meeting for their first date. Eric proposed on a weekend trip to Charleston, South Carolina, during an evening walk on the first night of their trip.

Their mutual faith was a large part of what made their wedding special. Laura says her favorite part of the ceremony was sharing communion with Eric, moments before they finally became man and wife. This is was when the tears finally started to fall, and was a very special moment for the two of them. The couple wants their mutual Christian faith at the center of their marriage, so it was only right for it to be the center of their ceremony as well.

A fun-filled reception followed the ceremony, where the bride and groom shared their first dance to the tune of "Love Of My Life," and the guests got to enjoy a four tiered butter cake with butter cream frosting. It was a simple, elegant, cream colored cake, standing proud on a silver cake stand, which accented Laura's gown's silver beading and her silver sparkly shoes.

With a last name like Coffey, it would have been a shame to miss out on a pun inspired wedding favor. Each guest received a burlap bag of coffee with a label that read, "Enjoy this coffee from the Coffey's." The day was centered on elegance, shared faith, and a good pun, making for memories that will last a lifetime.

Wedding Wednesday: The Brockman Wedding

The Brockman Wedding | June 13, 2015 | Photography by: Jolly Jen Photography

When Thomas rolled into his first day at high school in a flashy red car, Carly couldn’t take her eyes off him. Despite being two years older, he was still instantly attracted to Carly as well. The two became high school sweethearts quickly and dated for a steady and loving eight years. It was after those eight years that Thomas decided to propose to Carly at her parents’ home where they all popped a bottle of champagne and agreed that it was about time that the two got married.

The wedding day was decorated with the theme of vintage and was complete with old post cards, birdcages and wine barrels. The decorates were appropriately decorated in accenting colors of champagne and petal pink. They kept the food traditionally southern style and served their guests with a delicious macaroni and cheese bar. The cake was the real showstopper, though, and was made of red velvet with buttercream frosting.

Despite the rain from the day, everyone had a great time and moved under the tents to stay dry. One of the best moments from the event was, actually, the bride and groom dancing in the rain. The couple’s send off was in a golf cart since the groom was a golfer. The newlyweds rode off under sparklers and their guests sent them off with well wishes. As redemption for the rain that day, the sky painted a stunning rainbow over the two as they headed into their future.

Wedding Wednesday: The Powell Wedding

Robert & Ashley Powell | May 24, 2014 | Photography by Katelyn James Photography

From high school to college sweethearts, Ashley and Robert have been somewhat inseparable since meeting in middle school. They attended their senior prom together and also started and graduated college together at Virginia Tech. Robert felt nervous about devising the perfect surprise for Ashley as a proposal since they'd been dating for five years. He decided the right time was during a weekend trip to North Carolina that she suggested and planned, so she wouldn't suspect a thing. He quickly jumped into action asking for her parents' permission before the trip and making a plan for the big moment. After having dinner at one of their favorite restaurants, Robert suggested an impromptu photo shoot in the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden nearby. After taking a few photos and reassuring her the blinking light just meant the camera was broken and not in video mode, Robert faced Ashley toward him as he got on one knee. Ashley chose an elegant romantic theme with Charleston, South Carolina charm for the wedding, which was set with the incorporation of the bouquets and flower arrangements that were exactly what she envisioned! One of her other favorite aspects of the wedding was the first look. Being traditionalists, they were unsure about this element but it gave them special time to pray together and take photos alone and with their wedding party before the ceremony began. It was important to them that they have their ceremony inside a church as they both grew up attending church, and they were even able to have their pastor officiate. They also enjoyed dancing at the reception where they got to see all their friends and family members come together in one place to celebrate. One very unique element was the trolley that took guests through downtown Roanoke from one venue to another.
