Wedding Wednesday: The Merritt Wedding

The Merritt Wedding | April 25, 2015 | Photography by: Lori Hedrick Photography

Andrea and Owen met while working the same case for a client. It took a while for any romantic feelings to develop, but once they did Andrea started dropping hints until Owen asked her out (though he’ll tell you differently.)

Owen’s proposal was quite theatrical…literally. He likes to act with Roanoke’s community theaters, and it was at the end of a performance when he came to the front of the stage and got down on one knee. Andrea was in the front row, and he proposed right there with a live theater audience.

Andrea’s favorite moment from their wedding was their vows. They each wrote personal vows; Owen spoke about her personal passions and promised to support her, and Andrea talked about how good of a person he really was.

Their wedding took place at Andrea’s Alma Mater, Hollins University, with pink and green as their colors. The pastor was Owen’s father, an ordained Presbyterian minister.

Instead of favors for the guests, Andrea and Owen decided to make a donation to the RVSPCA in their guests’ names. And Andrea even donated her gown to Brides Across America after the wedding. Giving back to the community is very important to both of them. They used as many local vendors as they could. It was just their way of saying thanks to the local community.

Wedding Wednesday: The Craft Wedding (2014 Cover Couple!)

Jared & Chelsey Craft | May 11, 2013 | Photography by Tara Lilly Design & Photography

High school sweethearts Jared and Chelsey got engaged after he surprised her in 2012 with a special little ring box. Chelsey got around Jared's "all-camo wedding" wishes by throwing a true southern wedding. Hay bales, rustic decor, and other small details lent to the shabby chic theme. In addition to the decor, they had a local artist wood burn their initials with hearts, mason jars, and other unique designs on wood chips. Magnets were placed on the back so guests could take those home as favors to display their photos. For their unity ceremony, the couple collected soil from their childhood homes, as well as their new house, and planted a few flower seeds to help their love grow; it now stands in a mason jar in their new home. Believe or not, Chelsey's favorite memory from her wedding day was when it rained! Chelsey says she couldn't help but laugh as her bridesmaids raced back to the covered porch to wait for the rain to pass; luckily it did after just a few minutes, with nothing but sunshine for the rest of her perfect day. Chelsey and Jared celebrated their marriage by honeymooning in Negril, Jamaica at Sunset at the Palms, a "tree house" resort.
