Wedding Wednesday: The Carlin Wedding

The Carlin Wedding | December 16, 2017 | Photography by: Edmiston Photography

When Emily Ditto and Tyler Carlin matched on Tinder, they had no idea that, a couple years after their initial conversations about their interests and puppies, they'd be engaged to be married. For their first date, Tyler picked up Emily for a pajama-clad adventure, and they drove to Virginia Beach. There, in the rain on the boardwalk, Tyler kissed her.  Fast forward two years, and in the rain at Dave Matthew's vineyard, Blenheim Vineyard, while they were wandering through the grapevines, Tyler got down on one knee and asked Emily to be his wife. Tearing up, Emily immediately said yes.

The "snowy winter wonderland" theme of the wedding added to the inviting nature of Emily and Tyler's special day, complete with custom-designed snowflake projections on the walls and a snowy sendoff at the end of the night. Even the cake went along with the wintry theme: it was reminiscent of a snowy mountain with red velvet to match the bridesmaids' dresses and two bride-and-groom pine cones on the top. Emily and Tyler's favorite part of the day was hearing the speeches given during the reception. "Hearing the love and support from both families was incredible," Emily says. "On a day that was so rushed, it was a moment that allowed time to stand still and allowed for us to really reflect on what it meant that these two families would be joined forever." Adding a fun, unique flair, the couple incorporated a top hat into the wedding accents, as well as forgoing the traditional guest book for Christmas ornaments that wedding guests could sign. It was important to the couple to create the atmosphere of a Christmas wedding without going overboard, and the result was "romantic and intimate and loved by guests."

Wedding Wednesday: The Hilbert Wedding

The Hilbert Wedding | December 2, 2017 | Photography by: Pat Cori Photography

Emily Allen met Daniel "Danny" Hilbert a few years after she moved from Florida to Virginia. A mutual friend introduced them, and Danny took Emily's phone number. After he didn't call, two months later the two ran into each other at a Halloween party, and their instant attraction showed Danny that he had dropped the ball in not reaching out to Emily. Naturally, he didn't drop the ball again! Danny had originally planned to propose to Emily at her favorite restaurant in Tampa, but the plan went awry when she got sick earlier in the week, then making Danny sick as well. He was not to be deterred from proposing, however: he ended up proposing to her on a Friday morning before work with a beautiful ring.

Since middle school, Emily knew that she wanted a Christmas wedding, so in a magical ceremony with classical music provided by the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and adorned with subtle Christmas touches to the decor, Emily achieved her perfect day. The reception had several meaningful moments, such as the "grandmother's dance." Both Emily and Danny were blessed to have both of their grandmothers present to help them celebrate their union. Emily's birthday happened to be that same day, so during the reception everyone serenaded her with a rendition of "Happy Birthday." While the couple was sitting at the reception with their champagne, in the presence of their loved ones, Emily says that she was struck by the thought that weddings are "really about friends and family and blending families together, and that was a great moment for me."

Wedding Wednesday: The Nolte Wedding

The Nolte Wedding | October 7, 2017 | Photography by: Anna Bowser Photography

When Christina Evans met Mike Nolte while they were in college, she was immediately captivated by his pale blue eyes and his competitive nature. They bonded over a shared interest in thrill-seeking, and the two soon realized how much exactly they had in common. Six years after first meeting, the couple found themselves both living in the Roanoke area, and eventually went out to dinner on their first date. When Mike surprised Christina on Election Day with a trip into Roanoke to climb their favorite mountain, McAfee Knob, they were disappointed when they saw that the trail was closed. Christina suggested they try Mill Mountain, and there, Mike suggested that they get their picture taken before heading back. As another couple went to take their photo, Mike got down on one knee and asked Christina to be his forever date. Christina says that it was her "dream proposal."

The couple had originally planned to become husband and wife in a barn at the base of the mountain to reflect their love of nature and rustic themes, but finally decided that their hearts wanted a mountain-top wedding. They cancelled the venue and and DJ and made some phone calls to family and friends notifying them of the change. Although some family members couldn't make the hike, there were still about 40 guests in attendance at the top of McAfee Knob to help the couple celebrate. The couple felt "indescribable excitement" as they were married at the top of the mountain, having their pictures taken in their wedding attire at their unique venue. With Christina's beautiful bouquet of peach dahlias and roses and a one-of-a-kind ceremony, the couple made their first steps as husband and wife after following their feet- and their hearts- up the mountain.
