Wedding Wednesday: The Beiswanger Wedding

The Beiswanger Wedding | October 11, 2014 | Photography by Blake Prim Photography

Corey and Emily met while they were classmates at Longwood University. Emily was in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Corey was in the Sigma fraternity, and both spent nearly two years as friends before they started dating. Corey moved into Emily's apartment complex when she was a senior. She had him over for dinner one night, and they gradually began spending a lot of time together at the complex' pool. Soon after, Corey and Emily started dating officially.

Corey staged a casual proposal at the couple's apartment in Roanoke. As Emily was getting ready for a night-out downtown, Corey turned on their song: Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. Nervously, Corey got down on one knee and said to Emily "you're the only one for me!" Though shocked at first, Emily happily said yes.

Emily and Corey had a rustic themed ceremony at the beautiful Santillane. Their wedding colors--bold royal blue and soft cream and gold--complemented the lovely fall scenery. Elegant centerpieces consisting of colorful glass vases filled with spray roses, cream-colored lanterns, and tea candles made the reception pop, and the buttercream wedding cake adorned with blue pearls proved beautiful and delicious. For guests who didn't want cake, Emily and Corey included a cupcake tower stacked with chocolate raspberry and vanilla marble cupcakes with buttercream frosting. As an added treats, Corey and Emily gave out bags filled with s'mores ingredients as favors: a thoughtful and sweet touch.

One of the most special aspects of the ceremony for Emily was listening to Corey's handwritten vows, which he recited with tears in his eyes. The end of the wedding was also very emotional for the couple: Though it had been cloudy for most of the day, the sun finally came out during the reception, and both Emily and Corey were moved to tears.

For their honeymoon, Emily and Corey spent time relaxing at the Colonial Punta Canta Resort, an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic.

Wedding Wednesday: The O'Connor Wedding

 Tom & Ali O'Connor | July 19, 2014 | Photography by Chelsa Yoder Photography

When Ali's coworker invited Tom to a work function in hopes of making a business deal, it didn't turn out quite as expected. The business deal fell through, but Tom fell for Ali. They reconnected a few weeks later in Daytona Beach, Florida where they were both working an event for NASCAR. When it came time for the proposal, Tom was filled with nerves. He didn't sleep the night before, and when Ali came home from work she noticed that dinner was ready and a table was set with a Tiffany's box in the middle. Tom immediately dropped to one knee and proposed in the middle of their living room. Tom didn't stop there! He presented Ali with crystal champagne glasses and insisted on taking them to tailgate before a Phil Philips concert even though Ali argued it wasn't a good idea. Little did she know a limousine was waiting outside to take them to and from the concert that evening. Ali knew exactly what she wanted and chose a light peach, blush, cream, gold, and green color scheme for their summer wedding. Centerpieces featured vintage hydrangeas from a family friend's garden. Ali had the help of her family members in crafting the bar menu, seating chart, arbor, guest book, and ring box in order to make her dream come alive. She was also set on the cake being red velvet flavored and having some texture and touches of color. It was important to the couple that guests sample all their favorite foods, so they included a charcuterie board, Southern classics station, bistro tender short plate, and a dessert station. A favorite memory of the evening was the presence of Tom and Ali's closest friends and family members. Ali was able to spend a special moment together with her aunt and mother putting together last minute details for the wedding. Tom loved seeing Ali for the first time and the look on her face. They wanted to make sure everyone felt included in their wedding, so they had two maids of honor, six bridesmaids, one best man, and seven groomsmen. Ali's father also incorporated a fun family memory by bringing his 1976 Volkswagen Beetle to the venue.

Wedding Wednesday: The Lembo Wedding

Aaron & Mallory Lembo | September 28, 2013 | Photography by Kemper Mills Fant Photography

When Aaron and Mallory first met, it seemed as though the two didn't have much in common, but after several coffee chats, they realized they fit together well. Two years later, after a cold day walking pups for their annual Mutt Strut in Philadelphia, Aaron proposed to Mallory on her alma mater's campus. Because of Aaron's love of nature and Mallory's equestrian Southern roots, they quickly agreed on an outdoor wedding. On a whim, they stopped to look at Sundara and fell in love at first sight. Mallory had several favorite memories of the day, including dancing on the table with her father, wearing her late mother-in-law's belly dancing skirt while standing with family, and showing off a few newly-acquired dance moves with her new husband. Aaron reflects on a love note Mallory wrote him before the wedding that he read while waiting on his groomsmen and left him feeling, "without a doubt, believing he is the luckiest man alive." Their details made all the difference in their unique wedding: Mallory wore a penny in her shoe from her sister's wedding 15 years prior, while their childhoods were showcased with family photos strung on a clothesline; food from both family backgrounds represented each side, with Italian, Southern, and Greek flavors for dinner; because the couple met over Turkish coffee, there was a coffee bar with Turkish accents. Maps highlights their roots as well as dream destinations, while Aaron's late mother was commemorated through photos and two hand-sewn pillows with special quotes, and her wine case displayed at the front of the altar. Aaron's father made cornhole boards and tree slices that were used as tabletop decor were cut from her aunt's backyard. Aaron and Mallory's wine blending ceremony was most unique; Aaron used an Italian grape unique to where his ancestors were from and is grown and bottled in his New Jersey hometown, while Mallory's was her favorite grape she discovered while studying abroad in Spain. Aaron also wrote the ceremony containing Buddhist, Catholic, and Native American sentiments. Feathers, tree slices, branches, and succulents were used in boutonnieres and decor, while guests were given favors of little succulents to grow at home. The happy newlyweds spent a few extra days in Roanoke as tourists and they've also planned a trip to Turkey and southeast Asia in the next year or two.
