Wedding Wednesday: The Lane Wedding

The Lane Wedding | July 1, 2017 | Photography by: Kaitlyn Phipps Photography

Jordie Woods and Andrew Lane met in elementary school, spending their childhood together  playing the same sports and living less than a mile away from each other in Radford. On New Year's Eve of Jordie's junior year of high school, Andrew asked her to be his girlfriend. Their romance began, and continued as an unwavering long-distance relationship for five years when Jordie stayed in Blacksburg to attend Virginia Tech while Andrew decided to go to college several hours away. While the couple was on vacation in South Carolina during Jordie's sophomore year at Tech, they had a date night planned: a romantic dinner at a local restaurant followed by a walk on the beach to take pictures with Andrew's new GoPro (an early birthday gift from Jordie). After setting up the GoPro on a time lapse to take photos, Andrew turned to Jordie, and, pulling out a little ring box from his pocket, asked her to be his wife.

Because family is so important to Jordie and Andrew, they wanted their wedding to reflect their values and traditions, so Andrew's father, a pastor in Radford, officiated the ceremony while Jordie's sister was her maid of honor. While Jordie feels that "having a traditional wedding makes it hard to be unique," the couple found a big way to make their celebration more special: forgoing the popular "First Look" and instead seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day as Jordie walked down the aisle, carrying her bouquet of bold, multicolored wildflowers. Seeing her future husband at the end of the aisle waiting for her, and knowing that their long wait was over, Jordie says that she was overcome with emotion and "happy-cried the whole way down the aisle." To add another personal element, a dear friend of Jordie played the violin during the couple's traditional and emotional ceremony, a ceremony that the couple's family from all over the United States came to help them celebrate. "It was amazing to be surrounded by family who love us so much," Jordie says.

Wedding Wednesday: The Mixon Wedding

The Mixon Wedding | July 30, 2016 | Photography by: Amber Perdue

Ashley and Clark first met on a dating app. The proposal happened when Clark wanted to get Ashley a gun for Christmas as a joke. They ended up buying it, and when Ashley opened the box thinking it was part of the joke, she found a ring in its place. Clark got on one knee and proposed in front of his whole family.

Ashley took several small moments to really remember the ceremony, and she says that this was her favorite part. Seeing her soon-to-be husband down the aisle with tears in his eyes, and then dancing with friends and family really make the day special. She also shared the day with her sister by helping to set up a surprise engagement during the bouquet toss. Ashley did a pretend toss and handed the bouquet to her sister, only to turn her around to her boyfriend on one knee. "It made our day even more special," Ashley says. "The day was filled with love and future family!"

Wedding Wednesday: The Boyd Wedding

The Boyd Wedding | October 8, 2016 | Photography by: Anna Bowser Photography

Marlea and Jarred first met in high school; she says he was mean to her, but Jarred insists it was only because he liked her so much. After starting college, they eventually began dating. Six years later, Marlea went out to Colorado to see Jarred after he finished his clinicals. They traveled across several states together, eventually ending up in Kentucky for July 4th. Marlea and Jarred watched the best fireworks show she'd ever seen, and it was there Jarred asked her to be his wife.

Because their wedding day would be filled with a large, diverse group of family and friends, Marlea and Jarred knew it was important for everyone to have fun and feel included. Their theme of love and family capitalized on their wishes. Despite rain moving their ceremony indoors, they took it all in stride, placing their gorgeous arbor on the venue's stage. Guests stayed busy with good food, fun music and a photo booth, in addition to a dessert bar made up of Marlea's grandmother's special treats like mini cheesecakes, baklava and lemon bars, to name a few. The bridal party did a lip sync battle as well, surprising guests in the best way. Marlea says her favorite wedding day memory is during the reception, when a dance line formed to Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." The conga line formed throughout the venue, filled with family and friends. She says it was an amazing moment that connected everyone to feel important and loved, and the dance line did just that. The couple ended the night with a spectacular downtown exit.
