Wedding Wednesday: The Hyskell Wedding

The Hyskell Wedding | September 2, 2017 | Photography by: Patrick Perkins Photography

Jennifer Dickard had no idea that her friend was setting her up with Jason Hyskell, but after he reached out to her on Facebook a few weeks later, Jennifer agreed to go out with him. Their chemistry was immediate. While the couple was on a vacation in Jamaica, Jason planned a romantic candlelight dinner in an intimate location overlooking the ocean at sunset. Once they had finished eating, Jennifer was shocked when he got down on one knee and proposed. "It was beautiful, perfect and completely unexpected!" Jennifer says.

The couple wanted to stay true to themselves on their big day, so, forgoing uncomfortable dress shoes and high heels, they chose to wear gray Converse Chuck Taylors, and they bought pairs for their entire wedding party as gifts. In another nontraditional move, Jennifer and Jason chose to forgo a guest book, opting instead to have guests inscribe notes on rocks, and the rocks were dropped into a vase as a meaningful item for the couple to remember their special day. With Jennifer's younger brother as her "Man of Honor," as well as a fun cake topper, the couple's wedding was unique and tailored just to them. Jennifer's grandfather even officiated the ceremony, entertaining guests with jokes and funny stories, making him one of the most popular people of the weekend! Jennifer's favorite memory of the weekend was her walk down the aisle to her future husband and seeing his face as he was overwhelmed with emotions. The sweet moment "makes me smile every time I think about it," Jennifer says.

Wedding Wednesday: The Whitaker Wedding

The Whitaker Wedding | June 11, 2016  | Photography by: Pat Cori Photography

Sarah Rhodes and Robert "Buddy" Whitaker, Junior were both attending Hollins College when they met in 2008. Sarah was a senior and Buddy a first year grad student. But, it wasn't until later that the two began their romance. Sarah moved to New York City after college, and the two kept in touch. It was casual until Buddy found himself in the city visiting some of his friends. The two reconnected at a birthday party, which led them to pursue a cross-country-long-distance-relationship for six months. Buddy eventually relocated from Los Angles to New York City.

The couple were on a weekend trip to Texas, staying with a friend, when Buddy popped the questions. Sarah walked into their friend's apartment, only to be greeted by a ring box and a tray of cupcakes with "Will You Marry me?" written in the icing. With a sweet proposal like that, it's no surprise she said yes.

Sarah wanted a wedding full of southern charm and tradition, while honoring the couples friendship and relationship. By having their wedding at Hollins Universtiy, the couple was easily able to tie their southern theme and their relationship into one. Having their wedding at the place they met 8 years earlier was a lovely tribute to the couple's beginning. The two were even able to paint "the rock" in honor of their wedding, a long-time tradition at the college.

In honor of their southern roots, the couple served sweet tea at their wedding and handed out Virginia is for lovers gift bags. Their cake was a simple, tiered, and coconut flavored. It was white, with a textured design, and a gold topper, fitting the couple's color scheme of coral, peach, ivory, and gold. The colors blended beautifully with the exposed brick in their reception area.

The couple honored both their past and their future with their southern themed wedding. Being able to return to their beginning to celebrate the start to their marriage was a sentiment not lost on the guests. The couple even chose songs from their favorite films to be played my a string trio during the ceremony. The couple perfectly captured their love for each other with their June wedding.

Wedding Wednesday: The Smith Wedding

The Smith Wedding | May 30, 2015 | Photography by: Tara Lilly Photography and Design

Leah and Travis met at church. Travis was a guitar player and singer in the band. During the Christmas Eve service, Travis claimed he had to work, but then he showed up on stage. The pastor pulled Leah up as well and that was when Travis got down on one knee.

Leah’s favorite memory from the big day was just before she walked down the aisle. She stood with her father, holding his hand and just taking everything in. All the butterflies and all her excitement in taking that first step were incredibly meaningful and sweet.

Pink worked not only for the girls, but also for the men and their gray suits. Leah found ways to incorporate the color into her wedding dress, the flowers, the bridesmaids’ gowns, and the groomsmen's vests. For some extra flair, their cake was embellished with rhinestones. And because there are never enough sparkles, they finished off the day with a sparkler exit and a fancy Corvette getaway car.

What really made the wedding unforgettable though were the bridal party and guests. Being able to celebrate their love with so many people they cared about made their big day that much more amazing.
