Wedding Wednesday: The Beiswanger Wedding

The Beiswanger Wedding | October 11, 2014 | Photography by Blake Prim Photography

Corey and Emily met while they were classmates at Longwood University. Emily was in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Corey was in the Sigma fraternity, and both spent nearly two years as friends before they started dating. Corey moved into Emily's apartment complex when she was a senior. She had him over for dinner one night, and they gradually began spending a lot of time together at the complex' pool. Soon after, Corey and Emily started dating officially.

Corey staged a casual proposal at the couple's apartment in Roanoke. As Emily was getting ready for a night-out downtown, Corey turned on their song: Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. Nervously, Corey got down on one knee and said to Emily "you're the only one for me!" Though shocked at first, Emily happily said yes.

Emily and Corey had a rustic themed ceremony at the beautiful Santillane. Their wedding colors--bold royal blue and soft cream and gold--complemented the lovely fall scenery. Elegant centerpieces consisting of colorful glass vases filled with spray roses, cream-colored lanterns, and tea candles made the reception pop, and the buttercream wedding cake adorned with blue pearls proved beautiful and delicious. For guests who didn't want cake, Emily and Corey included a cupcake tower stacked with chocolate raspberry and vanilla marble cupcakes with buttercream frosting. As an added treats, Corey and Emily gave out bags filled with s'mores ingredients as favors: a thoughtful and sweet touch.

One of the most special aspects of the ceremony for Emily was listening to Corey's handwritten vows, which he recited with tears in his eyes. The end of the wedding was also very emotional for the couple: Though it had been cloudy for most of the day, the sun finally came out during the reception, and both Emily and Corey were moved to tears.

For their honeymoon, Emily and Corey spent time relaxing at the Colonial Punta Canta Resort, an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic.

Wedding Wednesday: The Piedmont Wedding

Tim & Kimberly Piedmont | June 21, 2014 | Photography by Marlee Kauffman

Even though they went to elementary, middle, and high school together, it wasn't until they were out one night with mutual friends that Tim and Kimberly finally met. One night, Kimberly was playfully asking Tim if he wanted to be with her until she was 35, 45, 55, etc. She set him up for the perfect moment, because it was then that Tim looked at her and said "how about forever?". The same friend who played matchmaker for Tim and Kimberly also acted as officiant for their wedding. She personalized the ceremony and made it unique to the couple since she had the privilege of seeing the relationship grow from that first night. The summer magic themed wedding provided just that as it was held on summer solstice, and a summer storm lifted right before the ceremony. Kimberly and her mother enjoyed time before the wedding by watching guests arrive, and drinks were also served beforehand to create a relaxed atmosphere before the ceremony began. Kimberly decided to let the beautiful venue speak for itself by keeping flowers and decorations minimal. Baby's breath, antique books, tea cups, and candles made for romantic, simple centerpieces. The century old trees in front of the house served as the setting for the ceremony, and the reception was held behind the house. Guests showered the happy couple in glitter as they were announced as husband and wife. The day after the wedding, Tim and Kimberly left for a cruise to the Bahamas and stayed in Charleston, South Carolina once they returned to celebrate their honeymoon.

Wedding Wednesday: The Medford Wedding

Jared & Ashley Medford | June 7, 2014 | Photography by Sam Stroud Photography

Jared couldn't take the anticipation of waiting to propose to Ashley anymore, so one day while Ashley was holding their daughter Berkley he caught her off guard and asked her to be his wife. Ashley says it was very sweet and very simple, very raw and very real. The couple's wedding was unique for many reasons. First, Ashley gave personal touches to the decorations by hand making or selecting the decorations She also used part of her mother's wedding dress and her grandmother's handkerchief to wrap around her bouquet. Another special element and Ashley's favorite memory was Jared's speech. He talked about how he found a new family within her family to look up to, and Jared wore Ashley's father's wedding band as a symbol of that bond as well as his commitment to Ashley. Perhaps the most important and unique part of their wedding was not the commitment between two people but between two first time parents and their daughter who they say is the best thing to happen to them. They kept with a classic, vintage midsummer's night dream themed wedding. Ashley's dress was custom made and partially designed by her to match the theme. Her bridesmaids picked out their own black dresses, and Jared bought his groomsmen their suits as a present to them because it was important to them to alleviate any extra costs for their wedding party. After their big day, the couple honeymooned to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where they enjoyed the stunning and non-traditional scenery.
