Wedding Wednesday: The Hilbert Wedding

The Hilbert Wedding | December 2, 2017 | Photography by: Pat Cori Photography

Emily Allen met Daniel "Danny" Hilbert a few years after she moved from Florida to Virginia. A mutual friend introduced them, and Danny took Emily's phone number. After he didn't call, two months later the two ran into each other at a Halloween party, and their instant attraction showed Danny that he had dropped the ball in not reaching out to Emily. Naturally, he didn't drop the ball again! Danny had originally planned to propose to Emily at her favorite restaurant in Tampa, but the plan went awry when she got sick earlier in the week, then making Danny sick as well. He was not to be deterred from proposing, however: he ended up proposing to her on a Friday morning before work with a beautiful ring.

Since middle school, Emily knew that she wanted a Christmas wedding, so in a magical ceremony with classical music provided by the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and adorned with subtle Christmas touches to the decor, Emily achieved her perfect day. The reception had several meaningful moments, such as the "grandmother's dance." Both Emily and Danny were blessed to have both of their grandmothers present to help them celebrate their union. Emily's birthday happened to be that same day, so during the reception everyone serenaded her with a rendition of "Happy Birthday." While the couple was sitting at the reception with their champagne, in the presence of their loved ones, Emily says that she was struck by the thought that weddings are "really about friends and family and blending families together, and that was a great moment for me."

Wedding Wednesday: The Carver Wedding

The Carver Wedding | December 2, 2017 | Photography by: Stephanie Parker Photography

After Lucas Carver met Kimberly Hughes while playing football on the Virginia Tech drillfield with friends, Kimberly made sure to add Lucas on Facebook. Kimberly's father had a rule for her: she couldn't get engaged until she graduated college with a bachelor's degree. The day after she graduated in December of 2015, Lucas created a driving tour around their favorite spots in Blacksburg and Christiansburg, ending up back on the drillfield, where Lucas got down on one knee and asked Kimberly to be his wife.

The couple's winter wedding was timeless, with its colors being white, navy blue and silver. The ceremony was performed by Lucas' father, a Baptist preacher, and the reception was everything that the couple had hoped for. However, their favorite memory of the day was when Lucas' fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, gathered together in a circle around the couple and sang a beautiful hymn, seeming to almost bless the marriage, making Kimberly tear up because of how much it meant to her. Because Virginia Tech played such a pivotal role in Lucas and Kimberly's relationship, and because many of the wedding guests had either gone to Tech or were fans, the Hokie Bird came and took pictures with the guests, allowing for the couple to celebrate their big day with a fun and personal touch.

Wedding Wednesday: The Wirt Wedding

The Wirt Wedding | October 16, 2016 | Photography by: Kevin Hurley Photography

Maygon Sowder met Barry Wirt through a mutual friend, quickly establishing a great friendship. When Barry invited her to a black tie event as his date, the rest was history. For his proposal, Barry waited until after moving into their home, and gave Maygon three boxes. One had wine glasses, the second contained her favorite bottle of wine and the third had a very special ring with a note. Barry later revealed he'd captured the entire moment on hidden camera, waiting to share the video at the rehearsal dinner the night before their wedding.

Maygon and Barry both say that their favorite moment of the wedding was the First Look. The weather was perfect, creating the perfect backdrop that was also Barry's dream ceremony location.  The couple says that the moment was special because they got to spend time together before celebrating their months of hard work that made their big day so perfect. Barry handmade the cupcake stands, which were decorated with the navy and coral wedding colors and their personalized wedding hashtags, #wirtthewait and #shesgettingbarryed.
