Wedding Wednesday: The Hanna Wedding

John & Carter Hanna | August 3, 2013 | Photography by Sam Dean

John and Carter met in 2007 thanks to their families pushing them to meet. For his proposal during a family vacation, John first asked Carter's father and grandfather for her hand in marriage. After their approval, John took Carter for a walk on the beach; they returned to find her family waiting with champagne. Their family and friends played a large part in their wedding, thanks to each of them doing readings, greeting guests at the church and as flower girl and ring bearer. One of Carter's favorite memories of her wedding was incorporating her grandfather into her day - due to a last minute issue, he could not make it to the actual wedding. Carter surprised her family with a life-sized cutout "Granddad" that spent the entire weekend with them at the rehearsal, getting their makeup done, and even dancing at the reception! Because Carter has a passion for blue and white, plus John's love of bright colors, they used blue and white urns that he'd collected over the years with flower colors that popped. The blue and white lent to an Asian theme with their decorations and guests were given colorful fortune cookies as favors. At the end of the night when the band announced the last song, the happy bride actually burst into tears because she couldn't believe the night was over. Lucky for her, the band never wants to see the bride cry so they played one more song for her! The couple celebrated their new marriage with a honeymoon to the British Virgin Island, where they relaxed on a peaceful beach.

Wedding Wednesday: The Eckhardt Wedding

Todd & Grace Eckhardt | July 27, 2013 | Photography by Schaffer Photography

Grace and Todd spent a few months eyeing each other across the room at Sunday School before finally talking at bible study. About a year later, Todd proposed as they were exchanging Christmas gifts. Grace says her favorite moment of the wedding was the ceremony, where they stood before God, friends, and family to vow to love each other for the rest of their lives. There were several unique aspects to their day: Grace's wedding dress was her mother's, redesigned on the top while the rest "fit like a glove"; Grace walked down the aisle to a song her father wrote for her mom for their wedding in 1983; cake toppers were Grace's childhood toys; Grace lined her veil with flowers from her mother's veil; and Todd gave Grace a necklace to wear made with diamonds from his grandmother's ring. A color scheme of celestial blue, white, black, and hitns of green, plus gold and silver added to the timeless, whimsical theme Grace wanted for her wedding day. Centerpieces were small floral arrangements with fun facts about the couple and their relationship; Grace created the guestbook, a Virginia dogwood tree on canvas where guests could sign the leaves. Guests received favors of personalized "Forget Me Not" seed packets. Grace and Todd traveled to St. Lucia for their honeymoon where they enjoyed activities such as snorkeling, biking through the jungle, touring an active volcano, and couples massage.

Wedding Wednesday: The Moore Wedding

Meredith and Landon Moore | December 8, 2012 | Photography by Rabiah Khwaja Gohar Photography

Meredith Hite and Landon Moore may have grown up in the same area and attended the same high school, but the two didn't officially meet until years later. A week before Valentine's Day Landon walked through the door holding roses, but it was far from an early Valentine's Day gift. Landon barely made it through the floor before getting on one knee and proposing. The Moore's wedding was like a winter wonderland featuring greens and white flowers with gold accents and stained-glass Christmas ornaments as favors. The couple wanted to use local vendors that were special to them because they wanted to show their guests how much they loved Roanoke.
