Wedding Wednesday: The Crawford Wedding

The Crawford Wedding | November 4, 2017 | Photography by: Demi Mabry Photography

Lauren Grantz and Lee Crawford met through mutual friends after Lauren moved to Roanoke for nursing. They hit it off immediately, and they went to Blue 5 on their first date. Neither of them knew that, as their relationship developed, it would end up being the spot for their wedding rehearsal dinner as well. One night, Lee took Lauren out to Luigi's, their favorite date spot. When they returned home and Lauren went to let the dogs outside, she saw that their side porch was decorated with an array of candles, confetti and tulle. All of a sudden, she also saw that both her and Lee's parents had arrived from out of town. Before she could ask Lee what was going on, Lee was already down on one knee with a ring, popping the question to a surprised yet enthusiastic Lauren.

To keep their wedding simple, elegant and classic, the couple opted for a color scheme of black, white and gold. The wedding, held at Hotel Roanoke, made it very easy for the out of town guests to find somewhere to stay for the festivities. The couple also chose to give guests boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts for either a late-night snack or breakfast on the go, which was also perfect for traveling guests. Lauren's favorite part of the day was when Lee dropped the rings during the ceremony, which ended up breaking the ice a little bit and making everyone laugh. "We had no idea things like that actually happen!" Lauren says. The simple, stress-free nature of the joyful occasion allowed for the happy couple to just relax and enjoy their day and prepare for the rest of their lives together as husband and wife.

Wedding Wednesday: The Thompson Wedding

The Thompson Wedding | November 4, 2017 | Photography by: The Photography Smiths

A few days after Jamie Thompson and Jessica Lumsden met online, they decided to officially meet. They created a scavenger hunt involving clues and pictures sent to each other throughout the day, and ended up meeting at a lookout point over the city. After realizing that they were actually trespassing on private property, the couple met up later that evening to listen to a band. Their strong connection was immediate, and nearly five years later while at their favorite place, Cherry Grove Beach, SC, Jamie proposed on one knee at sunrise, creating a perfect moment for this "perfectly imperfect, loving couple."

The couple's special day was made even more magical by an emotional First Look, where Jamie and Jessica could spend a moment alone before officially becoming husband and wife. Jessica, wearing a custom-made dress, walked down the aisle to the song "Marry Me," which was just one of the contemporary love songs that made a statement during the ceremony. Jessica says that it was wonderful to have "all of her favorite people in the world in the same place at the same time." The reception, held at The Hotel Roanoke, was all about the glitter, sparkle and shine with colors such as black, white and gold paired with breathtaking arrangements. At the end of the night, the wedding guests took home unique favors: Jessica had sent out photos of all of the guests to a caricature artist, who had sent back drawings of everyone who would be attending the couple's celebration. These caricatures were on display during the reception, and they were an important part of Jamie and Jessica's day.

Wedding Wednesday: The Taylor Wedding

The Taylor Wedding | October 14, 2017 | Photography by: Jasmine White Photography

Despite growing up only 20 miles from each other and attending West Virginia University at the same time, Michelle Cofer and Nathan Taylor did not officially meet until one summer night while they were bowling. Because of their obvious chemistry, when they met again a year later, Nathan made sure that they exchanged numbers, and they have been together ever since. Since their relationship was built on trust and honesty, the open channels of communication would make it hard for a wedding proposal to be a surprise, or so Michelle thought. But when Michelle was helping Nathan unpack the groceries after Nathan ran out to grab items to make breakfast one morning, she was surprised to find a little silver box in the bottom of one of the bags. In the box was her dream ring, and Nathan got down on one knee and asked Michelle to be his wife.

Michelle cherishes the memory of seeing her husband's face as she walked down the aisle. She felt no nerves and no worries, just a calmness in knowing that she was walking toward her best friend and future. "It was breathtaking," Michelle says. The ceremony, dubbed the "Marilyn Monroe Wedding" due to its classic details, had a color scheme of black, white and grey with red roses as accents. These roses are very meaningful to the couple: since their relationship was long distance for over a year, every time Nathan visited Michelle, he would bring her a  dozen roses. The elegant outdoor ceremony was unique due to the stunning arrangements, and the reception was magical, thanks to tables lined with candles and rose centerpieces. The perfect day was made even more special because many of the guests came from all over the country to help Michelle and Nathan celebrate the joyous occasion.
