Wedding Wednesday: The Seaman Wedding

Caitlin and Jake met at college. They had several classes together their first year, and they were assigned to several projects together. It was inevitable that they ended up as friends, and in March of 2011 Jake officially asked her out.
The timing of Jake’s proposal was based on when the ring he ordered was delivered. He couldn’t wait any longer, so he set things up for a Wednesday afternoon. He drove all the way from Richmond to put a note on her car, telling her to meet him where they first met at college. When she got there, various friends were waiting with cards from Jake. They took her around the campus, reading the cards, until finally ending up back where they started. This time Jake was waiting for her, and he pulled out the ring.
Caitlin’s favorite memory of the wedding was when they sat down for dinner. She and Jake looked at each other, and they were finally able to take everything in. They looked around at all the friends and family surrounding them, and they just enjoyed the moment.
The theme of the wedding was Romantic Southern, with a sterling silver, ivory, and emerald color scheme. Their centerpieces consisted of magnolia, cotton, and hydrangea; they were simple, but they were also natural and romantic.
Caitlin’s bouquet consisted of the same flowers as the centerpieces, with some seeded eucalyptus for an extra flair. What really made the bouquet special though was the jewelry Caitlin had wrapped around it. The two necklaces were gifts from Jake, and the brooch was a gift from her grandmother in high school. Her grandmother passed away during Caitlin’s first year at college, so it was important that Caitlin found a way to keep her close on the big day.
They had desserts galore at the reception. The cake was four layers of red velvet with raspberry, strawberry, and lemon filling. The groom’s cake was a naked chocolate cake with peanut butter icing and ganache drizzle. The topper for his cake was a nod to his love of Manchester United and how difficult it can be to drag him away from the game. They also served donuts specially made by a past employer of Caitlin’s.
One of the things that made this wedding so unique was the first look, not with the groom, but with Caitlin’s father. It was an emotional moment between the father and daughter, but it bolstered her confidence and made them both excited to walk down the aisle.
The second unique trait of their wedding was their reception. Instead of hosting every thing in one room, people moved to different places throughout the night. Cocktails started on the patio of Shoemaker’s Restaurant, dinner was in Granite Hall, and cake, toasts, and dancing were all in Riverside Foyer. The night ended with a sparkler exit.
